TIPS FOR CLEANING AND MAINTAINING A WOK
- Most of the time, if you have sticky or burnt food, you can soak some water
in the wok. Then scrape off with a bamboo brush or use a sponge, cleaning pad or a
brush.
- After every time you cook with a wok, use warm water to clean the wok. Most
of the time time, you do not need soap or detergent. I would suggest using a mild detergent
when you wok is extremely sticky or dirty.
- For burned in food, such as meat, rice or noodles, turn heat on to medium to medium high
setting for a few minutes. Add a 3 to 6 tablespoons of cooking oil to the wok. Add 1 to 6 tablespoons salt. Use tongs to hold paper towel or cloth rag to scrub the wok. Be sure to scrub
the bottom of the wok really well, as well as the outer edge of the wok. Throw the salt and scraped
food into the garbage. Finish cleaning the wok with a bamboo brush, or
a sponge, cleaning pad or a regular brush. Rinse wok with cold water. Put wok on stove and turn heat to medium setting for 10 to 15 minutes to dry wok. Shut of heat. Put a teaspoon or two of cooking oil on paper towel. Rub oil on wok to re-season the wok surface and to prevent the wok surface from rusting. You are now ready to use the wok again for cooking. Clean your wok every
time you cook and put oil on the wok surface to prevent rust. Happy cooking!
