Russian 2A36 "Giatsint-B" 152mm Field Gun in Ukraine || The 152-mm towed howitzer Giatsint-B, also called Hyacinth-B, was created by the Soviet Union as a replacement for the older Giatsint-C howitzer in the 1970s. The M-46 was supplanted in this role by the 2A36, which offers a significant improvement in performance. NATO referred to the 2A36 as the M1976 until its official designation, which goes by the appellation Giatsint-B. The 2S5, which is self-propelled, is referred to as the Giatsint-S elsewhere.
The 152mm ammunition that the 2A36 fires is exclusive to it and cannot be utilized in older 152mm weapons like the D-20. There is a large selection of ammunition, including HE-Frag, rocket-assisted, armor-piercing, illumination, and smoke. For normal shells, the maximum range is 27 km, and for rocket-assisted shells, it is 40 km. According to Soviet authorities, rocket-assisted projectiles have a maximum range of only 33 kilometers. There is around a 2-kilometer direct fire range. The maximum rotational speed is between 5 and 6 rpm.
Typically, a 6x6 truck like the KrAZ-260 or Ural 4320 tows the 2A36. It is challenging to carry due to its size and weight. However, it can be towed at up to 80 kph on the highway and 30 kph off it.
The Giatsint-B is a versatile and effective piece of artillery that has been used for decades in the militaries of numerous countries.
