In the 1970s, Lauren Copley achieved considerable success as a teenage recording artist in South Africa. She started singing at age 6 and made her debut album at age 11. In her teens, Lauren had several chart hits including Flower of Life, Kentucky Blues and It’s too late now. She received Gold discs for the latter two hits. She also represented her country when she was just 15 years old at the 1973 Tokyo Music festival.
Lauren became disillusioned with the pressures of stardom, lack of privacy and commercial exploitation. Fans were dismayed when she quit singing as a career at age 20.
Aside from a few limited singing performances, her recorded voice has largely been silent for decades. Now, 40 years later, her melodic, liquid gold voice is being showcased on her first CD album, entitled Chrysalis.
The release of the CD was prompted by repeated requests over several years from many people who still remember and enjoy her music.
The privately released 14-track album features Lauren’s own selection of favourite golden oldie songs from the 70s and 80s, fresh re-recordings of her two gold hits as well as some beautiful modern ballads.
Lauren Copley – Chrysalis is due for physical CD release in May 2015. It will also be available on cdbaby.com
