This is a review of the 10 by 10 Ozark Trail canopy from Walmart. First, let me caution you that there seem to be 2 10 by 10 canopies from Ozark Trail, both sold by Walmart. There is one with straight vertical legs and one with legs that slant out on each corner. The 10 by 10 is measured from leg to leg as it sits on the ground, not by the canopy size. So, think about it. If the legs slant out, the canopy must be smaller and therefore have less room under cover. That is the case, so if you want an area covered, 10 by 10, get the canopy with the straight down legs.
Anyway, the canopy arrived with only a slightly crushed box that did not affect he canopy in any way. Opening it up, you can see that is advertises that it comes up “instantly” and in 3 minutes. To me there is a difference between an instant and three minutes, but neither was the case. Actually, it took me about 30 minutes, but there are a few more steps to the first time you put it up than you will encounter the times there-after.
I was really very pleased with the canopy, coverage, and the overall design. In fact I was amazed at how well-built it was for the money.
The entire frame is collapsed into the stand you see here. I don’t know who designed the way this works, but they should have been given a raise. It is really quite clever. If you have 2 people, all you need to do is to each grab an opposite corner, lift slightly and back up. It really is that easy. Now, for the first time, you need to install the actual canopy top over the structure. This proved to be somewhat difficult for one person and would have been easier with two people. For the first setup, the top is pulled down on each corner and attached with velcro on the inside of each corner. Now, continue to pull the outside corners until it seems to be almost out all the way. Finally, this is the best part. Crawl under the canopy and simply push the center handle up and the top point will seat into the very top of the structure, expanding and tightening the entire canopy. Done.
The included stakes can be used to hold each leg down or used with the included rope, attached to each corner, to secure the canopy with cornet ropes.
When I packed it back up, I left the canopy on the frame. I fashioned a strap to hold the legs together so that the supplied cover would fit back over the folded up canopy and frame. As with most things, putting it back in the supplied case is the most difficult thing to do. Just a caution. DOn’t put it back up wet. It should be allowed to dry. Overall, I’d give this a five out of 5.
