How does a book become a movie?
That's a tough question to answer, as every adaptation has its own story. Today, we look at a particular one: The Shining
Perhaps one of the few books that have given me the creeps, The Shining is one of Stephen King's finest books from beginning to end. I remember feeling the same emotions to King himself after watching the Stanley Kubrick adaptation. However, over time, the images that stayed were certainly those of the movie. This proves the incredible power of adaptation over a novel. When selecting someone to adapt your work, do you want them to stay loyal to the source material or would you rather have them take artistic liberties?
The bigger question is... would we even be talking about Stephen King's The Shining today if it weren't for Kubrick?
