This 8' presentation was selected for presentation at the ESSTS (European Society for Study of Tourette syndrome) online conference on Oct. 1st and 2nd, 2021.

In our talk we briefly explain why there is a need to move beyond research of Tourette's as a purely neurological condition. We explain that - in order to do so - we need to listen attentively to the first person, lived experience reports of Tourettic people. Doing so we become attentive to the lived reality beyond the classical conceptualization of Tourette's as a lack of inhibition. Instead, a new conceptualization of Tourette's as a surplus of sensitivity emerges - one that can be tied to the recent 4E trend in the cognitive sciences. We show an approach like this opens up theoretical and clinical avenues to valorize some broader phenomena often linked to Tourette's, including an appreciation of the positive aspects of a Tourettic way of being. Importantly, in doing so we can start to appreciate Tourette's as a neurodiversen way of being.
