5G and FTTH are two complementary solutions, both relying on the availability of sufficient fibre into almost every street. This offers great opportunities for convergence in fibre rollouts in the coming years.
The FTTH/5G convergence study released by the FTTH Council Europe in 2019 revealed that an optimally converged network for FTTH and 5G could eliminate between 65% and 96% of the cost of a standalone fibre network for 5G. At the FTTH Conference 2020 last December, an update was released. The new study considers the realistic scenario of deploying an FTTH network first, intended to be 5G ready, but without knowing the exact future locations and fibre needs for the 5G network.
This webinar took place on 31 March 2020 at 14.00 CET.
During the session, the FTTH Council Europe’s Board Member Raf Meersman and Deployment & Operation Committee Chair Tom Bambury presented the findings of this study.
