CONSTRUCTION DATE INSIDE UTAH BEACH BUNKER
There’s no doubting the year of construction of this small personnel bunker at Wn10 Utah Beach as the builders left their 1943 date mark above the entrance door.
Wn10 is one of the most extensive positions on this Normandy landing beach and you can see over 20 different buildings with some constructed early in the occupation of France by German forces. As Germany increased their defences along the Atlantikwall following Rommel’s instructions, much stronger bunkers were constructed with thicker concrete walls and roofs to withstand aerial and naval bombardements.
This site features many concrete structures from both phases with positions for field guns, machine guns, mortars, ammo storage, and quarters for soldiers.
