Crazy facts about Cleopatra
She wasn’t Egyptian, and she definitely wasn’t BLACK. Cleopatra was descended from Ptolemy, a general in Alexander the Great’s Army who’s dynasty ruled Egypt. Ptolomey was Macedonian, from Greece, and Cleopatra was Greek too, despite modern misconceptions. Speaking of misconceptions… She was UGLY. The Romans created the myth of a beautiful Cleopatra because of her romantic history with Caesar and Marc Antony. In reality, she wasn’t known for her beauty, rather, her cunning diplomacy. Really, how could we expect her to be beautiful, given that… Her parents were SIBLINGS. The Ptolemaic Dynasty tended to keep to their own and inbreeding was common. In keeping with the family tradition, she married both of her brothers, eventually having one killed. Was it sibling rivalry, or a lovers quarrel? In any case, her lovers tended to turn up dead. Her baby daddy Caesar was famously assassinated, but his best friend Marc Antony didn’t fare well either and died in a suicide pact with Cleopatra. Legend goes, she had a venomous snake bite her breast to deliver the fatal blow.
