Scores of people have been killed in Egypt overnight in clashes involving supporters and opponents of the deposed president, Mohammed Morsi, and the security forces.
Most of the victims died when the army opened fire on followers of the Muslim Brotherhood staging a sit-in at a mosque in Cairo.
Doctors at a makeshift hospital nearby say they believe more than a hundred people may have been killed.
Jim Muir reports from Cairo.
