Professor Uscinski discusses conspiracy theories in the United States and why so many people believe them. He will also dispel many of the myths that surround modern conspiracy theorizing.
Joseph Uscinski is a professor of Political Science at the University of Miami. He studies public opinion and mass media, with a focus on conspiracy theories and related misinformation. He is coauthor of American Conspiracy Theories (Oxford, 2014) and editor of Conspiracy Theories and the People Who Believe Them (Oxford, 2018). He is a fellow of the Committee for Skeptical Inquiry. His article, “Clear Thinking about Conspiracy Theories in Troubled Times”, is available in the January/February 2021 issue of Skeptical Inquirer magazine.
