Two St. Louis police officers were shot Wednesday afternoon in north St. Louis County. In a release, St. Louis police said it happened at W. Florissant Avenue and Northwind Estates Drive. That's in the city of Ferguson.
Police said the city officers were "attempting to apprehend a suspect that was possibly wanted for Homicide when the incident occurred."
The two officers were taken to an area hospital. An update on their current conditions was not released.
Several police vehicles and groups of officers were seen standing outside the Barnes-Jewish Hospital emergency department Wednesday afternoon. Police Chief John Hayden and St. Louis Mayor Tishaura Jones also arrived to the hospital.
Multiple police sources told 5 On Your Side two people are in custody in connection with the shooting.
Police also had the intersection of the shooting scene at W. Florissant Avenue and Northwind Estates Drive taped off Wednesday afternoon. Both county and city police are at the scene.
St. Louis County police also sent out a tweet asking people to avoid that area as officers investigate.
