Historically copper vessels are plated by using tin. The traditional process uses hot plating instead of electroplating. Copper utensils are heated above the melting point of tin, after proper cleaning, and then metallic tin is applied using cotton swab, by bare hands.
Once polished by tin, the copper vessels can be used for cooking even acidic foods like tomatoes, curd, lime, turmeric etc. without danger of spoiling the taste.
