Hi!
In this video tutorial I show you how to make a self-binding receiving blanket.
Although it’s better described as a self-bordered receiving blanket.
You need two pieces of coordinating flannel: one and a half yards for the back/borders and one yard for the top. I always prewash and press the flannel before using. There’s flannel at Joann Fabrics called super snuggly that washes beautifully. Also check your local quilt shops for their recommendations.
For this pattern one piece of flannel is cut at 40 inches square and the other at 30 inches square.
You then pin and sew the flannel fabrics together using a 1/4 inch seam allowance. I show you exactly how to easily sew and trim the corners, creating a border with mitered corners, which is the side and top/bottom meeting at the corner at a 45-degree angle, similar to a picture frame.
The blanket finishes at approximately 35 inches square, which includes a 2.5 inch border.
This would make a wonderful baby shower gift or a great addition to your Etsy shop.
