Here is a little mistake that you might have missed in the iconic duel between obi wan kenobi and vader in a new hope. As kenobi encounters vader on the death star, both sides ignite their respective lightsabers and begin to duel. In those days, the prop lightsaber was not as advanced, and had to be hooked up to an external battery.
And so in this scene, if you look really closely at the lightsaber kenobi was holding, you can actually spot a little bit of the wire sticking out. But while its an understandable mistake given the difficulties of being the first, what's really cool about it, is that it would go on to inspire a new piece of lore in the star wars universe. The proto-saber, an ancient prototype version of the lightsaber. And much like the first interactions of the lightsabers used on set, the protosaber was also connected to an external power pack, with a cable linking the hilt to the power supply.
Naturally as the technology improved, these were mostly abandoned much like the onset designs for the prop lightsabers.
