This video will go through all the major updates the game have seen during it’s first 15 months:

After that I will give my thoughts on the current state of the game.
Imperator: Rome got released in 2019 to a lot of hype and good reviews from the gaming press. But then came the backlash, fans did not enjoy it as much as Paradox had anticipated. While Paradox said that Imperator: Rome had more content at release than any of their previous titles, fans wasn’t comparing it to the release version of titles like EU4 and CK2, they were comparing the game to the current versions of does titles, games that Paradox had kept on developing for years after release adding a ton of content and dept.
This backlash from fans led to very negative reviews on Steam and the hype quickly dying out. On Steam the game went from tens of thousands average daily players to often less then thousand. A lot of fans started to ask the question, will Paradox give up on the game, forgetting about it moving on to other titles or will they try to fix it?
During the games first 15 months Paradox have released 4 completely free major patches and two DLC where the first one is completely free and the second one costs a small amount compared to the pricing of other Paradox DLCs.
The first major patch 1.1 called Pompey was released two months after the game got released. This patch have a ton of bug fixes, gamebalance fixes and updates to AI, Interface, User Modding. It also comes with a bunch of new features and bigger updates and reworks to things like Civil Wars, Stability, Religion, Navies, Pops and much more.
The second major patch 1.2 called Cicero was released in September 2019. Just like the previous one it had a lot of minor fixes but the biggest feature is that Monarch power (points) have been removed! Monarch points was one of the biggest complaint fans had of the game and Paradox listen and a lot of the updates in this patch is how you now do stuff that you previously did with monarch points. But other than that they reworked experience for military units, the Split cities into Cities, Settlements and Metropolises, they added a lot of new building types and much more.
The third major patch 1.3 called Live was released in December 2019 together with the completely free Punic Was content pack DLC who got very positive reviews on Steam. Other than the normal bugfixes and balancing the 1.3 patch adds a mission system to the game, it comes with map changes to Sicily, Ireland, Scotland, Greece and parts of the Baltic Coast adding new territories and playable nations. A character experience system called statesmanship have been added. A map mode manage lets you to customize your mapmode bar. Family rework for great family’s.
The Punic Was DLC adds 9 unique mission trees for Rome and 10 unique mission trees for Carthages and other Punic countries. Unique unit models have been added for North African Armies and Punic Ships and a unique city set have been added for Punic countries. This DLC got very positive reviews on Steam.
The fourth major patch 1.4 called Archimedes was released in late Marsh 2020 together with the Magna Graecia content pack DLC. While the patch is completely free the DLC costs money. Other than the normal fixes and balancing the free patch is a big update to religion adding state pantheons, holy sites, holy treasures and updates omens. Judaism gets honored prophets. The update also makes changes to holdings and character loyalty. It adds a continue button allowing you to keep on playing after the game normally ends.
The Magna Craecia content pack DLC got very positive reviews on Steam. It adds apotheosis – living and deceased rulers can be deified and worshipped as gods. It adds four new mission trees for Sparta, four for Syracuse and four for Athens. A lot of new deities and treasures. New province investments for Sparta. Ostracism for Athens, the ability to create mercenary states for Syracuse. New land and fleet unit models for Athens, Sparta, Syracuse and Crete. New ports models for the Greek culture countries around the world. And a lot more!
