Top 10 things to do in Moscow:
10. GUM Mall
GUM Mall is a luxury shopping mall built in the 1890’s in the Russian architecture style. Its façade is about 242 meters long. The mall has 100’s of fancy stores and restaurants. Originally this site was known as the The Upper Trading Rows which used to be the hub of trading in the 19th century. The mall has a skylight roof and three-level arcades.
9. VDNKh
VDNKH is visited by plenty of locals , it is a permanent trade show and an amusement park in Moscow. It has a central pavilion, fountains, park and nice cafes.
8. The Moscow Metro Stations
The Moscow metro stations are also referred to as ‘underground palaces’ or Palace of the People. They were Built lavishly to make the common Russian worker feel appreciated and privileged when commuting to and from work. The stations of Moscow are a major tourist attraction . Marble in 20 variations, big chandeliers, sculptures and amazing mosaics adorn these stations. The Moscow Metro is the fastest means of transport and has a length of 325.4 km. Some of the most beautiful metro stations are Majakovskaya, Revolution Square, Prospekt Mira metro station, Komsomolskaya metro station etc.
7. Izmailovsky market Souvenir Shopping
The Izmailovsky market is located inside the Izmailovo Kremlin. It has a variety of souvenirs ranging from hand painted Wooden kremlin, Matryoshka dolls, , Faberge egg replicas , Russian furs, chess sets, scarves coasters, and many more hand made items. Compared to the other markets in the city, I found Izmailovsky market to be very affordable and the prices are negotiable.
6. The Bolshoi theatre
The Bolshoi theatre is a historic theatre in Moscow, which holds Ballet & opera performances. The theatre is considered as one of the greatest & oldest ballet & opera companies in the world
It has survived many fires and reconstructed several times. The rich tradition of ballet and famous ballet dancers are cultural symbols of Russia . Hence we decied to watch a ballet performance.
5. The Russian Circus
Moscow’s Nikulin Circus is one of the oldest circuses in Russia. They usually take place on the weekends and I highly recommend it. The circus includes live orchestra, Trapeze artists, clowns, acrobats & much more. I absolutely enjoyed watching the circus and had the most magical time. Nikulin Circus took me back to my childhood when we used to watch the Russian circus shows as kids.
4. Cathedral of Christ the Saviour
The Cathedral of Christ the Saviour is the highest orthodox church in the world. It is a must-visit site if you are in Moscow, both for its exteriors and interiors. Built in the tradition of Russian-Byzantine style, The church stands out for its stone facade and white marble, with four columns, as well as its five golden domes. It is an ideal place to attend an Orthodox Mass or to climb its domes and admire a beautiful panorama of Moscow.
3. The Moscow Kremlin
Kremlin is a Russian word that translates to a castle or citadel. There are around 20 Kremlins in Russia and Moscow Kremlin is the most famous one. Within the Moscow Kremlin there are five palaces, four cathedrals, and an enclosing wall. There is also the GRAND KREMLIN PALACE which was the former Moscow residence for tsars. Today, the palace is the official residence of the President of the Russian Federation.
2. The Red Square
Red square is the main city square and a major tourist attraction in Moscow. The Red Square is surrounded by the State historical Museum to the north, the Kremlin & Saint Basil’s cathedral on the south side. The eastern side has the GUM department store, and the Kazan cathedral next to it. The Kremlin and Red Square were together recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1990

St Basil’s Cathedral is one of the most photographed places in Moscow. It was built in the 16th century and is located on the southern side of the Red Square. The church is known for its unique architecture. It’s focal point is the roof of the cathedral with its colorful, vibrant domes and spires.
