The Haludovo Palace Hotel, constructed in 1971 with the purpose of enticing wealthy westerners to spend some time and money in Yugoslavia's new fancy resort.
Built on Krk Island in the Adriatic Sea, the hotel redefined luxury with its array of premium amenities, including fine-dining restaurants, saunas, large swimming pools, and its tennis courts.
Just a year after opening, the founder of Penthouse magazine made a massive investment of 45 million US dollars or about 315 million today adjusting for inflation - to build a casino in the hotel.
For about 20 years the resort was a retreat for the world's celebrities, athletes, politicians and all forms of wealthy individuals but during wars in the 90s that caused the dissolution of Yugoslavia, locals found the hotel as a refuge.
While the hotel officially welcomed guests until 2001, it could not survive the passing of its communist leaders and it is amazing to see what just 22 years of abandonment and neglect can do to a building of such grandeur.
