I compared the MacBook Pro 14 inch 10-core CPU/16-core GPU M1 Pro vs the Intel MacBook Pro 13 inch from 2019 using Ableton Live, my favorite DAW. How do they stack up for music production? CPU performance tests and export speed comparisons yielded some interesting results! Which MacBook Pro should you get and is M1 Pro worth the upgrade? The setups:
MacBook Pro 13 inch (LEFT)
8-core CPU, 8-core GPU
8GB RAM, 256GB SSD
MacBook Pro M1 Pro (RIGHT)
10-core CPU, 16-core GPU
16GB RAM, 1TB SSD
All machines are running Ableton Live 11.0.11 (regular, non-M1 optimized version). I tried beta 11.1 and performance was buggy and not really too different from the non-beta version. The beta also disabled a bunch of my plugins :(
