I turned a large Ash Wood Vase that would hold a plastic water bottle insert to hold flowers.
I had a blow out, that is I hollowed a little to far and the bottom was open so I sliced a piece of oak for a base and use CA glue to attach and seal it to the bottom of the vase.
This ash vase was from a pretty dry piece of ash and the hollowing was a tough job. First I used a series of forstner bits up to 2 -1/2" .....I had not been able to sharpen them good enough to efficiently drill but since then picked up a nice set of files that makes all the difference in the world when trying to sharpen your forstner bits.
I mainly wanted to post this anniversary wood vase because I thought it turned out pretty nice, good shape, large and my wife liked liked it :) I try to turn something new for her on most holidays, read the url above for more details.
I sealed the vase with Zinsser Sanding Sealer [ Ссылка ]
