#WorldPangolinDayDay is celebrated on the 20th February 2021 and we want to remind you that Nigeria is a major hub for traffickers sending the scales of African pangolins to Asia and it is because of Corruption at the ports and rural poverty make Nigeria an attractive waypoint for smugglers.
Our undercover footage shows the reality of how scales are removed from African Pangolins at the wet market we have been investigating - The scales are then smuggled to Asia. (Sadly for this Pangolin it was too late and she was killed before our teams reached the wet market). We recorded the aftermath for awareness.
In partnership with Greenfingers Wildlife Conservation Initiative, we have rescued over 20 pangolins since January 2021 and successfully released them into protected forests in Nigeria.
The plight pangolins face in Nigeria is worrisome as we fear they could go extinct locally but we will continue to investigate, rescue and rehabilitate endangered species and also continue with our educational campaigns to help raise awareness and to pressure world leaders globally to end this trade before another Pandemic arises.
