The Kenya Union of Clinical officers (KUCO) has threatened to hold demonstrations everyday from Monday next week to get the Ministry of Health and the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) to ensure payment of their emergency call allowances is passed. The union wants the SRC to accept the payment authorized by the county governments, failure to which they will hold vigils outside SRC and Ministry of health offices. They say that by denying the clinical officers these allowances, the government will widen the gap in the health sector and cause more unrest and services interruption henceforth.
The Clinical Officers have accused the national and county governments of discriminating them. They say that they received up to 72 hours on emergency calls to serve Kenyans while the others were on strike. The officers want their pay and benefits aligned with the law, which gives the Salaries and Remuneration Commission the mandate to advise the national and county governments.
