Here’s why you shouldn’t try to get rid of the ants on your peonies.
There is a unique biological mutualism, meaning two organisms have a beneficial relationship, that happens between ants and peonies.
The nectar from the peonies provides food for the ants and, in turn, the ants help protect the flowers from other insects.
There is no need to apply any kind of insecticide to get rid of the ants. They will eventually leave and if you are gathering peonies to take inside, you can shake off the ants or rinse off the blooms before taking them inside!
It is such a great picture of how nature works together and how two organisms can benefit one another!
Follow for more examples of biological mutualism coming this week!
