what happened on Arambol beach 28.02.13, when bulldozers and cops armed with angry expressions and no compassion tore down rows of beach shacks. It was a new sight to see in Goa where usually the locals and the shack owners work in tandem with the authorities to keep the beaches and their respective business blooming. It was a sad day as people saw their hard work of the season torn down in just minutes. Chill out spaces - gone. Yoga centres - gone. Restaurants - gone. Children's play areas - gone. Our surf school - gone.
But the spirit of the beach can never be demolished. No amount of mean-faced police or glass-eyed lawyers can bring us down. We re-build, we look up, we MOVE ON.
