Taking place shortly after the events of Assassin's Creed 2, after escaping from the Templar attack on the Safehouse. Desmond, Lucy, Rebeca, and Shaun have fled to the modern day Villa Auditore at Monteriggioni to continue to to look through Ezio Auditore's memories for the location of the Piece of Edan and the Temples left by the First Civilization. Desmond uses The Animus to relive Ezio Auditore's life after exiting the vault Ezio takes the apple of Eden and escapes back to Monteriggioni his long battle finally over Ezio is ready lay down his weapons and to live in peace. That is until Cesare Borgia The Spaniard's ruthless Son and Captain-General of the Papal Army assaults and destroys the Villa Auditore, steals the Apple of Eden, and murders Ezio's Uncle Mario while leaving Ezio for dead. Having survived the attack on the Villa Ezio helps his mother, sister, and the townspeople escape Ezio sets off form Rome to kill Cesare Borgia and The Spaniard, liberate Rome from the Borgia's corrupt grip on the City while also reclaiming the Apple of Eden. Desmond and the Assassin's look through Ezio`s memories for the location of the tombs which could hold the key to saving the world from absolute destruction.
