There’s no such thing as an easy rhinoplasty, but Lindsey’s nose really put my skills to the test! Lindsey is a really sweet Nurse Practitioner that I had the pleasure of meeting when I was leading a training in Arizona in December. Ironically, she had actually already found me through years and years of research for rhinoplasty specialists, and she had chosen me to be the surgeon for her nose. She’s in the aesthetic industry, so she’s very aware of how surgical outcomes can look, and she also has access to see any surgeon in the world, so I was really flattered for her to want to partner with me for her surgery.
Lindsey came in and we did 3D renders for her, which I do for every patient, and I was bold enough to show her the projected degree of straightening I could achieve for her nose. She had a very deviated septum, which was quite obvious from the external portion of her nose. And from the profile, she really didn’t have a bad nose so we just did a little bit of reduction of her bump, and little elevation of her tip. But her priority, of course, was to look natural, to look like herself.
Lindsey also wanted to be very transparent about the whole process. We filmed her whole journey, from pre-op, to surgery and throughout entire post-operative process, which she has been sharing updates on her Instagram. Now in 2023, it really is a new era in rhinoplasty surgery, than when I first started practicing in 2011, because there is so much transparency, especially with people that have the courage to share their own journey, like Lindsey has. Now I have a luxury of really seeing firsthand accounts of my patient’s day-by-day experience when they share their journeys on social media. It’s so great to see people talking about #NoseTaping, nasal exercises, and how swelling can fluctuate, which I refer to as ‘good nose days, and bad nose days,’ and everything in between.
