Here's a short clip showing a direct digital transfer from a DAT tape to a new solid state audio recorder. The interface is via a digital coax lead connected in the rear. The original sampling rate dictates the copy rate as well, in this case 48khz. These new solid state recorders have NO MOVING PARTS!!! They record directly to an SD card, USB flash or in the case of the TASCAM here, onto CF(compact flash) cards as well. This setup with the SONY DAT machine frees me up so I don't have to dedicate a computer to transcribe tapes into other media forms. Once the audio is recorded, I import it into a sound editing software and adjust for any aberrations or needed trimming and such. The song playing in the background is specifically unique in that a guitar synth was used to trigger the KORG M-1 for all the piano sounds. A Roland TB-303 can be heard in the background. Original tracks were laid on a TASCAM DA-88, mixed on a Mackie mixer, mastered onto a Sony DTC-75ES DAT machine. Here's a link to download a full length version of the song
