The Benedictine monastery on Reichenau Island, has been a World Heritage Site since 2000. In the 300 years that followed its founding in the 8th century, it became one of the most influential monasteries in southern Germany. All that remains of the complex are three pre-Romanesque churches, which are under UNESCO protection.
