Hey, everyone! Welcome!
I'm Simran and this is Shelf Life, an anecdotal podcast about books where we discuss not just plots, narratives and characters but also the magic of being touched by a good story, the experience of being lost in a new world, the journey of falling in love with nothing but the written word.
In episode fifteen, we take on another brilliant writer: Michael Ondaatje! It's a whole new genre for us here at Shelf Life (family memoirs with strange, zigzag narratives) but it's one we grow to love anyway. I talk about my South Indian heritage, what binds me most to where I come from, the language that rests on my tongue, the traditions that live inside of me like old fables. The wild women, the soft men, the lost stories, the tender dreams of my hometown all rush back as I take you through Ondaatje's masterpiece: Running in the Family.
Sit back, relax and breathe. And don't forget to tune in!
