Attempted climbing Gannett Peak (Highest Peak in Wyoming) via the Green River Lakes trailhead then on to Tourist Creek up and over into the Wells Creek/Scott Lake drainage. I was trying to do the following:
Day 1 - Drive from SLC to Green River Lakes trailhead. Hike up to 3 Forks Park. Use this as my basecamp to attempt summit push.
Day 2 - Summit Attempt. Hike from 3 Forks Park up to Gannett and back. This obviously did not go as planned. I only made it up to skinny lake.
Day 3 - Hike out
IF (thats a big if) I had to do it again. I would plan for MORE time and hike lighter. That hike up and especially down Tourist creek SUCKS! I am not sure if I would need the ice ax or crampons as I never got that far.
Here is what I would recommend:
Day 1 - Drive up and hike to three forks park.
Day 2 - Hike up to skinny lake (acclimatize)
Day 3 - Summit attempt. Hike back to upper Green River Lake if I had the strength.
Day 4 - Hike out
