I made this video about how to tell apart Pseudotsuga menziesii (the Douglas fir or Rocky Mountain Douglas fir) and Abies concolor, the White fir. These are two of the most challenging conifers in the Rocky Mountain region for newcomers to tell apart. Importantly I also discuss how to tell the two apart even without looking at the cones of the Douglas fir, which is normally the best way to tell the two apart. Often though you will find no trees in an area of either species with cones, so it becomes important to look at other species of these two trees for identification.
