President Richard Nixon holds up a Boston Bruins Are No. 1 banner near Dublin, Ireland, in October 1970.

I post this video for two reasons. 1) It combines two of my favorite early '70s things: the 1969-70 Bruins and the Sports Huddle; 2) The video hasn't really been out there, especially this short piece of it, so why not?
The story in a nutshell: Eddie Andelman, Jim McCarthy, and Mark Witkin hosted a humorous, irreverent, and wildly popular Boston sports-talk radio show, the "Sports Huddle", which in addition to sharp sports commentary provided tons of wit, often on funny phone calls placed across the world.
When the trio blasted President Richard Nixon for not congratulating the Bruins for winning the 1970 Stanley Cup, 30,000 of their listeners signed 7,000 protest letters, which were sent to the White House.
Nixon got the message, sending a congratulatory telegram five months later. Then, on a trip to Ireland in October, 1970, while riding in a convertible in a motorcade through County Kildare west of Dublin, someone proffered a BOSTON BRUINS ARE NO. 1 banner and Nixon held it up!
The locals had no idea what the odd scene was all about, but their relatives in Boston knew, and scored another hilarious triumph for the Huddle!
