See a gearcase lube change on a Yamaha F225 in this video from Boats.net. This is a simple job, though you will need one special tool. Check the link above to get a Yamaha pump to fill the lower unit. These pumps are manufacturer specific, since the nozzle on the end of the pump has to mate with the fitting on the lower unit drain bolt opening.
John will show you where the vent bolt and drain bolt are located, and then he’ll show you how to change the gearcase lube on your Yamaha outboard. You’ll know the lower unit is full when you see oil running out of the vent opening at the top.
How often should you change the lower unit oil on a Yamaha outboard? On the Yamaha F225, you should change the gearcase oil every 100 hours or once a year.
