These 10 chili rasboras, Boraras briggitae, are in an established 5 gallon aquarium with a bed of Fluval Stratum containing Malaysian Trumpet Snails, red-rimmed melania, scientific name Melanoides tuberculata and planted with Java Fern, Leptochilus pteropus, synonym Microsorum pteropus, and other small assorted plants. Throughout the tank are oak branches with seeded and established slow growing Fissidens fontanus. A biologically seeded sponge filter maintains water quality, and the pH is kept low with the aid of almond leaves, aka catappa leaf, and alder cones. The fish are fed crushed and powdered TetraColor flakes combined with crushed Hikari brine shrimp, blood worm, and daphnia while the filter is turned off to ensure most of the food is consumed and doesn’t fall into the substrate due to water turbulence.
Water chemistry is about 0-20 ppm (mg/L) Nitrate, 0 ppm (mg/L) Nitrite, very hard 300 ppm GH, low alkaline 0-40 KH, and about 6.2 pH.
