In this video, we will watch scenes from the hit Netflix show Lupin and I will show you small French language nuances that classes won't teach you. I'm talking about noticing word choice subtleties within sentences, spotting when speakers delete words or not, and identifying patterns in different registers of speech. Today I'll show you exactly those subtleties in the hit Netflix show Lupin These nuances are things that all native French speakers do when speaking French and are tips that will help you sound far more like a native in French. Some of these nuances include using stress pronouns, omitting certain words and sounds, and even certain vocabulary words and phrases.
To effectively learn how to sound more natural in French, you obviously need read world examples of French sentences and conversations. This will also be a great glimpse into Lupin especially if you're on the fence about watching it or are afraid it might be too hard. By taking time to analyze the trailer, we will get used to how the characters speak, their register of speech, and be prepared for these little details before approaching the whole show. That's why using shows to learn French is so effective because we can extract a sentence, break it down, and then hear it being spoken right back so that you can get used to hearing these nuances.
What many learners also don't know is that Netflix subtitles are paraphrased so when you're watching a show, you're not actually able to follow along to exactly what the actors are saying. While this helps you read the subtitles quickly, you are actually missing a lot of the subtleties involved in the language and are not building your French listening and comprehension skills as much as you could be. By learning these nuances and building comprehension skills, you're eliminating that problem and elevating your ability to catch fast speech and quickly understand it. One of my main questions in French classes was always, "Do French people actually speak like this?" and effectively using real world materials like shows and movies to learn French helps eliminate that question. By breaking down these French language nuances, you will also start noticing that when you engage with other forms of native speaker content or even converse with a native speaker, you will understand far more than you did before and have a better idea of the connotations of what they are saying. This helps you navigate different French situations with more precision by being able to change your speech based on formality, familiarity and conversation topic.
