Picture this; a Kenyan athlete is almost winning a gold medal in the final of the men's 10,000 meters in an international race. Then with only meters to go, an Ethiopian athlete out-sprints him and takes the gold medal. Not taking it lightly, the Kenyan punches the Ethiopian, and is disqualified for unsporting behaviour. That's exactly what happened during the 1992 world junior championships in Seoul South Korea, where Kenya's Joseph Machuka was beaten by Ethiopia's Haille Gebresellasie in the final 50 meters. Geoffrey Wachira spoke to Machuka in his farm in Ngong, and filed the following report.
