What the differences between kombucha and kefir? Kombucha is simply a fermented beverage made from sweetened tea and healthy bacteria and yeasts called a SCOBY. In order to have a healthy drink, you need three things: tea, sugars, and water. What happens is that the probiotics and the bacteria feed on that sugar source in the water and the caffeine from the teas to create healthy probiotics and natural yeasts to create a tangy type drink.

Kefir, on the other hand, only needs two things: sugar and a liquid. Although there is dairy kefir, for the purpose of this video, we'll only be discussing water kefir. The healthy bacteria and yeasts feed on the sugars to provide healthy bacteria and CO2.

What are some other differences between the two? Kombucha, needs the caffeine from the tea whereas kefir doesn't. Kombucha produces more acids to create a more "vinegary" style and taste and kefir is a milder bland water taste. In terms of health benefit, each drink provides a different amount of probiotics and other healthy components. If you are wanting more of a "probiotic" drink, the kefir might be your choice. But if you want to create more alkaline in your body via the acidity, kombucha might be better.

Either way, go out and try both. They both are more healthy than sodas, sweetened drinks, or sugared juices.
