We follow Ian Harford as he heads out into the brush on the final day of the driven wild boar hunt in Hungary.
Welcome to Wild Boar Road Trip – Hungary on Deerhunter TV.
As the guns gather early in the morning, Ian runs through all the essential equipment that has made the long journey across Europe to the Hungarian wilderness. After explaining the importance of keeping your hunting gear organised, Ian joins his fellow hunters for the morning brief. Hunting with a new group of people is an amazing experience and the friendships formed on this trip can be just as important as the hunt itself.
The first drive begins and Ian gets set on his shooting sticks ready for a shot. With shooters to his left and right, the arc of fire is about 40 yards in front, 150 yards to the right and 80 to the left. A good backstop and heavy ammunition will give Ian a good advantage on these fast sprinting boars.
After the first drive comes to an end Ian has been unsuccessful in seeing any animal activity. However, hearing the sounds of gunshots in the distance gave Ian hope that there was still something out there worth waiting for. It’s easy to get disheartened when things don’t go the way they are hoped, but it’s vital not to lose focus and give into those unrealistic expectations.
During the second drive and back on the shooting sticks it isn’t long until a fallow doe makes an appearance around 80 yards away. Unfortunately, by the time a safe, clean shot was available the doe had moved on. However, Ian was soon presented with another opportunity, A fellow shooter wounded a pig directly in front of Ian’s path. Ian offered support and took the pig, this is a perfect example of teamwork at it’s finest. Tradition is a huge part of hunting in Hungary and as Ian pays his respects and thanks his fellow hunters.
As the final drive of the trip begins, Ian takes up in a highseat, which offers an elevated position. Soon into the drive Ian takes an incredible shot at a fallow doe in the distance. Shortly after a wild boar runs across the open fields and Ian doesn’t let this perfect opportunity go by.
Once the final drive finished it was time to re-join the group and give thanks to the fallen game. This is a time-honoured tradition, it also is the ideal time for Ian to look back at the trip and the fantastic experience he’s had during this wild boar road trip.
In the last episode of the Wild Boar Road Trip – Hungary, Ian and Steve take a look back on the trip and go through the ups and downs and epic experiences of Wild Boar hunting in Hungary.
