This video outlines the basics of limited vascular compression ultrasound for detection of deep venous thrombosis (DVT). It describes probe selection and basic scanning technique for the DVT study, obtaining views of the relevant femoral and popliteal anatomy, recognizing a normal and an abnormal scan, and avoidance of common pitfalls when scanning for DVTs. Our goal is to richly convey the appearance and feel of a normal and abnormal compression scan using side-by-side videos of the vasculature seen on ultrasound with the hand of the ultrasonographer.
