What therapy works for Autistic people? and the need for positive Autistic identity for wellbeing: Aucademy's Chloe educates Sam Harris
In this session, Dr Chloe Farahar (she/her) answers Sam Harris (he/him) of BISnet's questions about what she's interested in at the moment. Chloe explains her interest in helping Autistic people foster positive Autistic identity, and find Autistic culture, community, and space for wellbeing.
Chloe also discussed why she finds the question "what therapy works for Autistic wellbeing?" frustrating because it depends on the profile of the Autistic person, e.g. do they think in pictures or not? Experience alexithymia? Does the therapist understand the difference between depression and Autistic burnout? That the Autistic population experience greater rates of trauma than non-autistic neurotypical people, and the community finds different things traumatising, e.g. invalidation trauma of our experiences of the world is high in the Autistic community.
