Lake Bumbunga at Lochiel. South Australia, is a large salt lake about 2 hours north of Adelaide. It is well known as one of South Australia's famous pink lakes.

Depending on the time of year and the amount of salt in Lake Bumbunga - and some rather clever bacteria - the water's colour in this salt lake can change from blue to white to pink!

The best time to visit Lake Bumbunga is early Summer ( early December) but we still had some impressive pink hues on a warm day in early January.

We also visited Lochiel and the salt lake in July when the water level was higher and the colours, although not pink, were still pretty impressive.
