Common Indoor Orchid Diseases and WHY?
I talk about Orchid Fungal Infection, Bacterial Infections, Root Rot, Bud Blast, Spots on Flowers, Crown Rot and how all of these are associated with Overwatering your Indoor Orchid Plants. More over, when it's cold outside or the temperatures of the Fertilizer Water is too Cold the Nutrients would not even be absorbed by the Orchid and you will get a Salt Build up that would eventually burn or suffocate your Orchid Roots.
Root rot is a condition found in both indoor and outdoor plants, although more common in indoor plants with poor drainage. As the name states, the roots of the plant rot. Usually, this is a result of overwatering. In houseplants, it is a very common problem, and is slightly less common in outdoor plants. Wikipedia
You will need the following items: Peroxide 3%, alcohol, Scissors, New Zealand sphagnum moss, a plastic or glass container to keep the humidity up, tweezers to pick away all dead matter.
Make sure to let your Phalaenopsis orchid hydrate in water before and after process.
Cut away any roots that’s black, smushy or flat like paper.
Make sure to spray well with hydrogen peroxide before and after cuttings. I like to use a old toothbrush to scrub away all the black mold as it will stunt any new root growth.
Then you want to close any open wombs from cutting with a tad of cinnamon.
Let the orchid sit over night and let it lay in warm water for 30 mins before you sit it in damp moss.
