A lithium fire is a Class D fire that requires a specialized fire extinguisher. Regular extinguishers meant for Class A, B & C fires (like water, foam, dry chemical powder, carbon dioxide and clean agent) cannot and should not be used on Class D fires, as they will worsen the fire instead of dousing
Fumes of lithium fires are toxic.
