STORYLINE
Violence continued on Wednesday in the Middle East with militants launching further rocket attacks at Israel, in response to the Israeli military offensive in northern Gaza.
One of the rockets hit the entrance to a school in Sderot, Israel, shortly before pupils started arriving for the day.
No casualties were reported at the school.
Another rocket hit a farm close to the Israel-Gaza border fence, damaging a chicken coop but causing no casualties, the army said.
Meanwhile, a Palestinian man was killed early on Wednesday by Israeli tank fire in the northern Gaza Strip, Palestinians said.
They said the attack happened as a group of Hamas security personnel gathered outside a building there, although it was not immediately clear if the dead man was one of them.
The army said it fired at a group of armed Palestinians who were laying explosive charges near soldiers operating in the area.
The dead man and injured were taken to the a hospital and morgue in Biet Lahiya, on the Gaza strip.
On Wednesday Israel's security cabinet ministers arrived at the office of Israeli Prime Minister, Ehud Olmert, in Jerusalem to discuss the situation in Gaza, how to continue operating there, and tactics to stop rocket fire.
Gaza was the focus of other violent incidents on Tuesday evening.
An Israeli, wounded early on Tuesday by a rocket fired from northern Gaza, died and gunmen shot and wounded a former Fatah Cabinet minister, an attack apparently linked to internal Palestinian political rivalry.
In the meantime, the two Italian Red Cross workers who had been kidnapped at gunpoint in Gaza on Tuesday afternoon have been released, and are reportedly safe and well.
Palestinian security officials said both were released shortly after midnight.
