Leora Eisenberg is a program officer of the Central Asian Student Association at Harvard. She entered the Ph.D. program in the fall of 2021 and is studying Central Asian Soviet history. She graduated Phi Beta Kappa, summa cum laude from Princeton University with a B.A. in Slavic Languages and Literatures and a minor in Russian, East European, and Eurasian Studies. She is the recipient of a Fulbright Student Research award (canceled due to COVID-19) and a Princeton-affiliated Labouisse Prize to conduct research on Kazakh language instruction in northern Kazakhstan. Her academic interests include artificial language change and Russification as an arm of nationality policy, although she is particularly interested in how the Soviet regime wielded these tools to "Sovietize" and/or Russify predominantly non-Russian, non-Russophonic societies.
