In the end I sent it back and got a new one. That also took several tries to get everything working, but in the end it's working now. Although I have my doubts that the fan is working properly.

When you have installed a NVMe drive, it is strongly advised to put the bottom screws in the case, before trying to switch it on. There are pogo pins to power the NVMe drive, and they need to make proper contact.

You can boot from micro SD or USB with Raspberry Pi OS. You can use the Imager to install a Linux image of your choice on the NVMe drive. Before you reboot, make sure you have an up to date firmware that can boot from the PCIe port. You can make sure by executing the argon-eeprom.sh script from Argon40.

As the Argon case also messes up the communication between the Raspberry Pi PSU and the Pi 5, it assumes it doesn't get 5V at 5A and limits the power to the USB ports. You can change that with the following line in /boot/firmware/config.txt
sudo nano /boot/firmware/config.txt
usb_max_current_enable=1

I also changed the boot order, so I can easily boot from USB, but it does mean that booting will take longer, when you are not booting from USB or micro SD.

You can change the boot order in the EEPROM. Also do this with Raspberry Pi OS, as that will make sure you don't overwrite it with an older version.

sudo rpi-eeprom-config --edit
BOOT_ORDER=0xf641

1 = micro SD
4 = USB
6 = NVMe

The number at the end, is actually the first boot device. Argon40 has 6 at the end, meaning that the NVMe is the first boot device.
