The Polynesian Voyaging Society and community greet the Cook Islands voyaging canoe, Marumaru Atua, along with their captain and Pwo navigator, Peia Patai, and crew at the Marine Education Training Center at Sand Island. Marumaru Atua voyaged from Cook Islands to Hawai'i to participate in the 13th Festival of the Pacific Arts and Culture.
The Marumaru Atua is a Cook Islands traditional canoe operated by the Cook Island Voyaging Society for the revitalization of ancient voyaging and to ensure the growth and development of the next generation of navigators. This voyage to Hawaiʻi is led by Cook Islands Pwo Navigator Peia Patai of Te Puna Marama Voyaging Foundation.
