Curious images on mars dried river gediz valley
NASA's Curiosity Mars rover used its Mastcam to capture this mosaic of Gediz Vallis. In the middle of the valley in this image is a pile of rocks and debris carried away by flowing water billions of years ago.The wind is thought to have carved out the larger valley, which begins much higher than Mount Sharp, the 3-mile (5-kilometer)-high Martian mountain into whose foothills Curiosity has been rising since 2014. The mountain consists of layers. , with the largest at the bottom and the smallest at the top. Approaching this debris in the valley's inner channel is thought to be the only way Curiosity can study younger material that occurs in mountains higher than the rover can go.The mosaic consists of 18 separate images that were put together after being sent to Earth. The color was adjusted to match the light conditions the human eye would see on Earth.
