Dating to the 1980s or perhaps the 1990s, this film shows a live fire exercise put on by the People's LIberation Army of the People's Republic of China. The highly cinematic film showcases the PLA's capabilities and includes a look at high tech radar and weaponry, including high performance fighter aircraft, Mi8 transport helicopters, missiles, armor and artillery. Paratroops are also shown being deployed. Most of the weaponry is not identified, but at least some of the fighter aircraft shown appear to be Chengdu J-7, a Chinese version of the Russian Mig-21.
The People's Liberation Army (PLA) is the armed forces of the People's Republic of China (PRC) and the armed wing of the PRC's founding and ruling political party, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). The PLA has five major service branches: the Ground Force (PLAGF), Navy (PLAN), Air Force (PLAAF), Rocket Force (PLARF), and the Strategic Support Force (PLASSF).
