Examples of vehicles that use PTO's to generate hydraulic power to operate their specific hydraulic functions include Tippers used in earthmoving, highway vehicle recovery units such as Tilt Trays and truck-mounted cranes.
In this week's Video, our young and talented technician Seth shows us how to prepare and then install a PTO (Power Take-Off) to a truck's manual gearbox.
The truck is a 2014 Isuzu NQR with MZZ-6F MANUAL Transmission.
The PTO used in this video is an 8 Bolt Side mount Hydreco, model PA857 Series with a vacuum-actuated sliding shift.
Seth also shows and explains how to measure and calculate the clearance between the PTO and the Gearbox and then prepare the correct number of spacer shims required for correct gear to gear clearance that will produce a reliable power transfer and a long term installation.

4:25, Step Two: Remove bolts locating the PTO cover plate onto the gearbox, remove the cover plate and clean off all residual gasket and sealant from the flange face.
8:45, Step Three: How to install new threaded studs into the gearbox flange (tighten studs to 20 to 25 Nm or 15 to 18 lb-ft).
12:20, Step Four: Test fitting the PTO to the gearbox and try and create an even gap between the PTO flange and gearbox flange.

25:15, Step Ten: Replace the gearbox drain plug and fill the gearbox with the correct amount and specification of transmission oil.
25:52, Step 11: Performance testing the completed System for desired flow and pressure.
We will use the PTO to mechanically drive a 4100 PSI High-Pressure HAWK HFR60FR water pump between 600 to 1450 RPM depending on the application required by the client to blast water through 160 meters of hose and out various drain clearing or cleaning nozzles.
At 1450 RPM and with 42 HP the triple piston Hawk high-pressure water pump can deliver up to 60 Lt/Min (15 GPM) at up to 280 bar (4100 PSI).
